Electric power is essential to ensure the economical growth of the country and the quality of life of its population. However, the hydraulic resources available close to the main consuming centers are declining. Furthermore, the environmental licensing of the remaining hydraulic sources, which could be considered as economically viable, is becoming more and more difficult. Nevertheless, the energy demand continues growing.
This picture ensures an important role to the nuclear power plants in the national energy matrix. This option becomes still more attractive when we consider that Brazil has the 6th largest world uranium reserve as well as the technology necessary for the nuclear fuel fabrication, thus assuring fuel supply independence. The company Indústrias Nucleares do Brasil - INB , which belongs to de federal government, is responsible for the various stages of the fuel fabrication cycle.
Angra 3 connection to the grid is foreseen to take place in 2014. At present, the restart of its construction is close to take place, as Eletronuclear has alrready obtainned all the necessary licenses.
